6.95-14 bias ply tires
« on: April 04, 2014, 12:47:20 PM »
I was curious to know if 6.95-14 bias plys will fit on the standard 14" styled steel rim?  The 6.95-14 bias plys are considerably skinnier than my 205/70 14 radials currently on my styled steel rims.  Is anyone out there currently running the 6.95-14 bias plys on their standard 14" styled steel rim?  Did you encounter any problems getting them mounted to the styled steel rim?  I assume these will fit as both the tire and rim were original tires/optional rims.

thanks,

Matt

If they are what you want to run, fitment wouldn't be any issue You would fit better on the 5 inch wide wheel, but would still work out on 5.5" too.

I am currently running the Goodyear Power cushions on my 67' coupe with styled steel rims (14 x 5.5). No issues with the tires, but again, they are not radials and do not act or perform the same! Still, I show the car and they look period correct. Here is a pic, although not directly taken of the tires, but captured in the background during an engine build. I can get more pics if you like?

That's what they were designed to do.

+1

Not understanding the original question.  6.95x14 was OEM size.

Thanks guys for the replies.  I just needed some reassurance.  HipoGiddyup, I too bought the power cushions and will be looking forward to having a period correct tire.

Here are some pic's of my new shoes.  These are the Goodyear Powercushions w/ 7/8" WW.  What I noticed immediately is how much easier it is to turn the steering wheel compared to the much wider radial tread width.  I don't have pwr steering however it almost feels like I do.  Another thing is how these bias ply's resonate more of the road noise through the car compared to the radials.
