Pics of early '64 Dearborn radiator?
« on: April 08, 2014, 12:22:32 AM »
Curious if anyone might have some pics of an original Dearborn assembly line radiator for a V8.  I know what the later style looks like with squared side tabs folded over the top and 'X' on the solder.  Curious if anyone has any evidence that this was the only style radiator used at Dearborn or if one that looks like the typical San Jose one was used??

Charles, I believe mine to be original from March 64, I don't know much about the numbers, maybe you might know?
Hope the pics help you out.

Looks like a '67 and later radiator since it has the FoMoCo stamp on top.  The numbers/stampings are not consistent with factory line parts.  Would expect something like DEP C4ZE 8005 Z  Then a date stamp like 4BC... 3rd week February, 1964.

Looks like a radiator shop tag or a replacement identifier since it mentions the maker.

I can provide more pictures of my early 64 radiator if needed. It's not original to my June 64 car, but it is an original radiator. I got it from the Mustang Barn, recall it came out of a March 64 mustang.

Sure, that would be great, thanks.

If I were to find, say a May '64 radiator, would you be interested in swapping?

Charles, Here are a few pictures of a early radiator that I use to have.
Looks like a factory goof, it was stamped C4DE then C4ZE on top of it.

Charles,

I'll post some pictures of the radiator tomorrow. After I got it from Mustang Barn, I had an NOS core put in, so that's the only modification. The original core was too dented.

I could consider swapping for a radiator closer to my own build date. Mine is June 19, 64 and auto with A/C. The early radiator I have "4AB", has the B1 marking on the strap that I've never found a reference for. I do know the mustang it came out of had factory A/C.

Thanks, asked the seller if they have the B1.

Haven't found any info out on what B1 stands for.

On the AMK website it has the following breakdowns for C4ZE 8005:
G2 - Manual Trans
H2 - Auto Trans w/o AC
M2 - Auto Trans w AC

Then there's the H1 in the pic posted by C5ZZ.

I'm trying to hunt down a H2 with little luck...

Anyone know if the same radiator were used in V8 as well as the 6 cylinders?

Dom

Given that the V8 radiator I have marked with the B1 has the transmission cooler fittings, I know's for an auto. I just don't know what the B1 refers to...maybe a reference to auto, maybe something else. The references I have don't mention a B1. It did come out of a March 64 car with A/C (and automatic).

My guess would be B1 was the early code for auto trans.  Will try to remember to look in the 1965 single year MPC to see if it's listed.
