66 High Country Special
« on: February 22, 2014, 10:39:36 PM »
So I was at a local car show today and there was a nice 66 Convt there and I noticed the color was not a common color, also saw a different emblem on it.  Owner says it is 1 of 30 1966 convertible High Country Specials with a color of Columbine Blue I believe is what he said or some blue.  I've never heard of a 1966 High Country Special.  I looked through some of my books and can only come with 1968.  Just checked the web and I guess there were some 66 High Country Specials...Enjoy

The HCS promotion was in '66, '67 and '68! Here's a '66 HCS coupe I came across in B-Ham during the 40th celebration. Here's some further reading for ya: http://californiaspecial.com/1966-67-HCS-features-list.htm

The High Country Special Mustangs in 1966 and 1967 were produced in the coupe , convertible or fastback body styles. The High Country Special in 1968 was the Coupe body style only.

Kick myself for not buying what I confirmed to be one of those (66') in Gold. Found it on Craigslist in NC last yr. Pretty fair price for it as well. I won't make that mistake again! >:( >:(
Because I won't find that deal again??? >:( >:(

Another one - in not as nice condition

PO repainted it - apparently didn't like the original  bright green (Timberline Green)

Just goes to show how they were viewed back then! Just like newer cars are viewed today. Just pitch em in the trash! :(

Oh this was not more than three or four years ago.  Just another early Mustang

IMHO these cars gather interest since they are different and stand out in the sea of early cars at show but I've not seen a premium associated with the model over any other (in this case coupe) Mustang of the same year

True!
Seems to be a thing with select groups of people interested in the special editions and that's it. I personally find the rarer specials the best finds and would like to get my hands on a few.

Does anyone know where there may be a ski country special or a blue bonnet?
