Early 1964 1/2 door??
« on: November 13, 2013, 12:31:50 PM »
So unbeknownst to myself, (as I am learning a lot about the early production nuances with Mustang parts), I have found that the donor passenger door on my 64 has a very early production date, (looks like March 18th?), as well as a smaller door lock knob hole. Any history on this??? Thanks for any replies! :) Looks like I will have to drill out the lock knob hole to match the later 65' donor door I have on the driver's side.  :'(

It was phased out after the first month or so.  There are several other differences, including the shape if the bottom corners.  You would be best served to get another door instead of modifying that one.

I guess I'll have to chalk this one up as a learning curve. The door has already been painted and ready for assembly. I can't see any other differences and the door skin went on without an issue. Will the door/window  mechanisms be affected? That would be my only concern now.

That door is probably very valuable to the right person. I take it you are not putting it on a 64 1/2 that's early enough to have that style door?

Charles, what is different in the corners? Maybe the OP can take some pictures of those as well.

The back corners are more rounded and some of the hardware is different.

I agree, that door should be saved for a very early car,
a person restoring one would be very happy to get it!
It would be a shame to drill out that lock knob hole when
there wasn't very many made to start with.

Hipo giddyup are you going ahead and using this door or did you opt to save it?

I'm currently in the midst of restoring an early 64 1/2 (sched bulid date 24 March) and am interested.
I'm in need of both doors, mine have had speaker holes cut into the bottom or the doors (thanks to a previous owner *cringe*).

Let me know, and anyone else for that matter as this post has got me on door hunt to hopefully find an early style door as I was going to use any used door I could get my hands on (don't want to end up with repo doors).
Regards,
Dom

I would have gladly sold this one for a more correct car ( date wise) but i found the date after i had painted my car. Sorry bout that. If it had still been in primer i would have swapped it or sold it to someone in need of this early door like yourself. Ironically i took this and a few other parts from a friend who was loading his trailer to take "junk" to the dump! I never thought it was more than just your normal door.
