65 SJ 289 Bell Housing to Engine Block Bolts
« on: February 25, 2010, 12:11:01 AM »
I disassembled an early October 1964 (1965 year model) SJ Coupe that I have, and found a strange fastener.  It was the top passenger side bell housing to block bolt.  It had a stud on it. I have attached a photo.  Has anyone seen this before?  The length looks exactly the same as the others, which have no head marking, and appear to be original.  I am guessing it held the clip for the automatic transmission vacuum modulator line, but I am not sure.  The car was partially disassembled when I got it.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Agree - odd

And no I've never seen one there.

IF - its original it must have had a very small usage window ;)

I notice you guys refer either after a year of a Mustang or before the style or engine size of a Mustang,(i.e, coupe,289) and use the letters "sj". What does "sj" stand for?  thanks

Since we so often find differences between the assembly plant ways of doing so we request that when posting questions or findings that the author identify the assembly plant (as well as when the car was built)

So you will often find people posting the plants in shorthand

I had a clip on my July 65 Dearborn convertible at the same location, attached to the top passenger bellhousing bolt.  It was for the neutral safety switch wire.

On my 1966 200 CI the cylinder head bolt has a stud/bolt on the passenger side rear. Not sure what it was used for. Hadn't noticed it before, this post got me looking. Any Idea's?

If my memory serves me right, that head bolt with the stud should go in the passenger front location, and the battery ground cable mounts there.  Maybe Jeff or Charles can shed some light?
