71-73 Tailpanel Acorn nuts
« on: June 27, 2013, 10:20:41 AM »
Does anyone know of a current supplier or possibly know of a source for obtaining the correct acorn nuts for the tailpanel trim panel?  AMK shows them online as well as in their print catalog, but my order came back as no longer available. I underdstand things change, but at least a call from them would have been nice so I could have begun the search for another source sooner.  A friend has indicated they are a 3/8 hex and about 1/2 inch long from the flange that secures to the interior side if the tailpanel.  A total of 12 are needed.  I would greatly appreciate any guidance on any suppliers or parts available.

Would guess that is a donor/wrecking yard only thing at this point. Also check other Ford models as they may have used the same nuts for side or rear molding also -

Not everything is available in reproduction or catalogs ;)

A part number would be nice, just to verify what you want. On a guess, I'd say 45277-S36 would be the one. I have a few of that part number in stock, plated gold zinc. They will require a sealer to be more correct, which can be obtained at AMK under their stock number B-11445, 25 each for $3 (there is a $30 minimum from AMK).

Sorry I did not have the part number at the time of posting.  Books at home I am at work.  If you have 12 of the nuts available I would be very interested and appreciative.  I will send you a PM.  Thank you

Jim,

Just wanted to let you know the acorn nuts worked great and look great.  Thank you for the help as well as the help with the others that connected with you.

Jim,

Do you have anymore of those acorn nuts?  I noticed my restored 1971 429cj Mach 1 has the incorrect nuts holding the tail panel on.  I would like it to be correct.  I would need all 12 as well.  If you no longer have any could you advise where I would find them please?

Mike,
I have a couple of sets but they are not plated, they're in the "to be done next" pile. To keep cost down, I need a minimum lot quantity and I'm not there yet. I get a 5 gallon bucket of miscelaneous hardware from a local salvage operation, sort, clean and store them until needed for plating or phosphating.

OK,

Can you let me know when they are ready and I will buy a set of 12 from you?  I really want things to be correct!

Thanks,

Mike
