installation of windows and window mechamisn
« on: December 28, 2013, 12:07:50 PM »
Getting ready to tackle one of ( for me ) the least pleasant jobs of a restoration, the installation of the windows, vent window frame and the operating mechanism for the windows.  The car in question is a 68 coupe.   Does anyone have a favorite order of assembly for the door parts, such as the vent window frame first, then the operating parts and finally the side glass?  Seems no matter what order these parts are stuffed in the door it is still a struggle.  Does the window lift mechanism go in first, then the window glass and then the vent frame last?  Seems over the years no matter what order  it is a battle -  care to share your successful method for assembly.  The doors are mounted, adjusted and the latching parts are all assembled and in working order  .Wax coating and under coating are sprayed and dry so just the windows remain.  The top opening trim and weather strip are also in place. The rear window guide plates have already had the "hole saw" treatment since this is a California Special and one needs to have access to the hardware for the side scoop installation when the time for striping arrives.   Thanks for any advice.

Thinking back on it I believe my order on my 68's has been

1. vent window and frame, install loose, tilt forward a bit.
2. scissor mechanism
3. rear guide
4. track on rollers
5. glass in, attach to track
6. install stops
7. initial adjustment, vent frame to body, then rear guide, then stops
8. window felts
9. lower bumpers

Will be doing it on the GTCS soon, in the next few weeks, so post any tips!  ;)  I'll be striping the scoops before window installation, so a slightly different order as no holes are in the rear 1/4 side plates.

I do have a write up on rear 1/4 window install, PM me an email address if you would like a copy....
