Little plastic door weather strip retainer pins?
« on: December 21, 2013, 05:26:59 PM »
Are the little plastic pins that are used to retain the weather-strip at the front of the door the same as those used for 65-66 Mustangs.  Can't seem to find any listed for a 68, catalogs simply say retainers are included with the weather-strip - but they were not in the Carpenter package .  PN for 68 as shown in factory assembly manual is 377163-s Drive Pin.  65 assembly manual shows a Ford part number of C1AB 6220807.  Scott drake shows a little pin and lists it for 65 -68 Mustangs.  Anyone have experience with these little drive pins and know if they are interchangeable?  Are they the same for 65 to 68 as the Drake catalog suggests?

That plastic pin is only used on 67-68 Mustangs for the door weather strip, however you have a couple of options: obviously a donor car; enlarge the hole from 1/8 to 5/32 to use Ford C5AB-6220586-A but the color is white; use a GM pin as shown in AMK Products ( http://www.amkproducts.com/ ) stock number B-10650 (12 items $3.00) which is black and uses the same type of grip. The head looks different but the dimensions are about the same.
Note: AMK has a $30.00 minimum order.

If the weather-strip listed by NPD does indeed have the correct fasteners as the catalog states, I wonder where they get them.  Again, the Carpenter weather-strips did not have them in the sealed bag.  Either not intended to be there or left out, or NPD uses some other brand.  Anyone used this part from NPD and what did they send for the drive pins?  such a tiny part to be troublesome.

I thought they were missing from my last bag of Carpenter weatherstrips too, but I hosed out the garage where I restored my car just this week and found them hiding between some crates :)

65 pon, would you mind measuring the little pins and posting the results?
