Wonder where the car is from originally. Would guess California originally - from what I could find out there was a guy that traveled up and down the state (like the guys doing tape graphics years ago or even the side protective strips)  putting on tops at dealerships. Think I've seen 20 or so up to this point - always with the same trim and material. Figured it was the Acme kits and hardware he was using - and what we researched for 6S001 the 66 Shelby that got a vinyl top as an experiment at one point while still at Shelby. Seen more of them on 69-70's that other years so far

In fact there was a special order paint (some sort of pink) 69 Mach I in the Seattle area at one point with a vinyl top if i remember correctly that was in at least one magazine

Oddly enough I have owned 2 fastbacks with aftermarket vinyl roofs. One was a 70 Mach 1 out of California that sold new at Russ Davis Ford in Covina, CA. and the other one is my 69 Mach 1 from Sid Stout Ford in Texas. Both had the same covering and the trim that went around the quarter panels were a very generic looking molding that looks like it may have been formed by hand and fastened by spring clips. I opted to leave this off my 69 when I restored it as it was not original from Ford and there was probably a good reason Ford didn't offer it. Just don't look right on a fastback in my opinion.

They are odd indeed, I've only seen them on 69/70's, not earlier cars.  My 65 coupe came with one and although coupes look ok with them, I still removed mine when I repainted.  I guess it goes with the lime colors and faux woodgrain of the generation.

Yes have seen a number of other years also - the on in the pictures belonged to a local guy in the late 70s-early 80's by the name of Joe. He showed it a bit and it always started discussions. Think that was the first one I remember seeing.

I think the factory 3/4 vinyl roof on the 71-73 Mach 1 looked good, but not the dealer full vinyl roof treatment.
