NOS C40E-6015 289 Short Block
« on: November 17, 2013, 07:06:50 PM »
This is a 5 bolt 289 that was found in a crate in a shop. It is a NOS OEM replacement short block, Std bore, Std crank and rods. Asking $1000 or best offer.

The plate on the engine indicates it was a Ford rebuilt engine not a NOS one. Nice find

Like today it looks like Ford subbed out the rebuilds to subcontractors - in your car Fred Jones ;)

...but isn't the casting date "a bit" late for a 5-bolt block?

As you can see the date on the rebuilders tag is 68. It had a 65 and a 67 date code heads. I also thought it was a date code on the block was a little late to be a 5 bolt but it is.

Would guess that the production of 5 bolt blocks continued after their use on the production line for service replacement usage. Possibly the reason for the later date??
