IMO yes it should be a straight decal on the side of the air cleaner on a 65. On all unrestored 65-67 cars /air cleaners that I have seen, and in the Mannel book,  it says straight. (says curved is for 64½)

Also the heater hose mentioned is pointed in the wrong direction because of the coil position (64½) also already mentioned.

I've attached a picture of the straight edged Autolite decal as installed on my Metuchen July 65 built - '65 GT.
