69 Mach 1 wheels
« on: October 04, 2013, 06:07:53 PM »
I am in the last stages of a turnkey restoration on a 69 mach (july 22 Metuchen)
The question is about the wheels. Would Magnum 500's be plausible?
Or would the styled steel wheels be more likely.
The owner is concerned about MCA judging.
Thanks for your input.

All 69 Mach 1's came originally with the chrome styled steel wheels that are 14", the magnums are a 15" wheel and depending on the class you enter the car there may or may not be a deduction, that's a question for the judges but to be correct the styled steel wheel is what it was born with.

If the owner is going to show his/her 69 mach1 in the concours trailered/driven class, then yes, they will get a deduction for magnum 500's.

But its personal preference IMO.  If the owner would rather install the magnums because he/she likes the looks better than the Styled Steel wheels and get the up to the 5 point deduction, then that's his/her choice.

I have an aftermarket am/fm radio in my 69 mach1 cause we enjoy driving our mach1 and we get dinged the points everytime in concours driven( have since made it into the conservator class).

I'm a certified judge and in Orlando a few weeks back we counted off for magnums on a 69 mach1.

Use the style steel wheels with original style tires for shows - then suggest (if the owner want to) a set of Magnum 500's with some newer performance tires for around town and fun

Plenty of owners swap tires and wheels depending on usage ;) but yes Magnum 500's = deductions just like spoilers and slats on a 69 Mach ;)
