Radiator Support
« on: August 04, 2013, 07:42:41 PM »
A picture of the lower left radiator support on my 69 Mach 1.  The sideways ' F ' mean anything to anyone ?  Thanks,  Brian

F= Mustang (Ford coding for all Mustangs)  on the line so IMHO its likely an identification by the producer that the radiator support is for Mustangs

With that being said don't recall seeing one (the F) on other 69's - was just sanding in that area a few days ago - spring 69 Dearborn panel. Has the radiator support been replaced? Don't see the spot welds in that area of the F.  If not what is the date code (if you please) from the panel?

As a side not you'll find at some plants (ones that also produced Cougars on the same line) that they marked the front of the cars (before the sheet metal was installed) with a "F" in crayon so that workers knew the body was a Mustang not a Cougar since they both look very similar from the front ;)

Forward left fender apron is dated;  9  10  D3

Do not know about a possible radiator support replacement.  Do know the radiator support cross member is dated;   8  19  3

Additionally both fender aprons have the correct vin stamping.  A replaced radiator support would go a long way in explaining why it is not ' correctly '
bored for a SCJ lower oil cooler hose.   Any other thoughts on this little riddle ?

Thanks for taking a look and the  F = Mustang info.    Brian

Walked the yard and I found "F"'s and "R"'s. The "R" stamped core support came from a June 1969 Dearborn Cougar.

This is a picture of the front side.  Correct red primer ?  Black paint drips or lettering ?  Any of this help to establish assembly line installation ?  Brian

Thanks for the picture - appears to be original - not repo panel.

Spot weld looks original from here ;)
