Topic: Engine Block

I removed the bad engine block from my J-Code this last weekend.  Cylinders 3 & 7 are where the major carnage took place.  The bottom of the cylinders are broken and will need to be re-sleeved.  The rod on #3 went and broke a chunk off the edge of the mating surface where the oil pan attaches.  I came into a good deal on a new block for a replacement with the correct date codes.  My question and it may be a stupid one but here goes.  Is this block worth fixing to anybody or should I just send it off to the scrap metal yard for a few bucks.  Here is the info on the block C8OE-6015-A  7J6.  I hate to scrap this if it of value to anybody.

Does it have your cars numbers stamped into it?
If it does I would wrap it up and keep it just because.
Other than that is has no real value

There are places that can repair blocks that are amazingly bad and they come out great.
But...it is expensive

It is not the original engine, I've heard they can be repaired but it is in most cases not cost effective.

Post it on your local craigslist for $100 or so as a core.

Number three - add an appropriate length of chain and a buoy and you have a boat anchor. We did that with a 352 block on a lake in Massachusetts. The buoy has been replaced, it was there for 50 years.

I like the boat anchor idea, unfortunately the way things are looking here in ND it may be July before the lakes thaw out.  It is currently 2 degrees here, tomorrow it's suppose to warm up to 40 and then by Saturday they are calling for -25 with -65 wind chills.  Jeff I was hoping you might chime in; I found a tag on the side of the block "Rettig Brothers Engine & Balancing Modesto"  Thought you may have heard of this company.  Thanks again guys for the help, everybody have a happy new year.

Yes a big volume rebuilder in the area  - everything gets bored to 30 or more over. Everything gets ground to 20 at least

It's worth zero likely. Finding a C80E 6015 A dated 8J-8L is no easy task trust me. Before or after say mid Dec is a snap. That strike really limited the batch dates for the initial post strike cars of which many received 7H dates
