Hi Guys,The troubleshooting of this build continues. I have a noticeable whine from the rear end (rises and falls with speed of the car). This is the second set of rear end gears I've had in the car. The first gear set was really noisy. The second set is a little better but still noisy. I've had one fellow tell me that noise from the 3.00 to 1 gear ratio is common with Ford 8" rear ends. That's the first I've ever heard of that and am skeptical to say the least (especially since so many Mustang used that gear ratio).Thoughts?Ron
Was the "one fellow" the person who set up the ring and pinion . It shouldn't whine if set up properly.
The OEM manufacturer had a cutting technique that aftermarket manufacturers of 8" Ford gears have not been able to duplicate. The 8" Ford Yukon Gears in 3.00 for example have a "noisy" sticker on the side of the box for this very reason. I consider them the best aftermarket choice.I installed NOS 3.00 gears for the above reason and they are dead silent. If you are running OEM gears with noise, assuming all other parts have no issues, it is setup lash or worn gears.
I purchased mine from All Classic Motors (allclassicmustang.com)C4OZ-4209-H.
That P/N I provided is correct for a 3.00 (39 ring gear / 13 tooth pinion).
