Trim Decode 26 ?
« on: May 12, 2013, 10:04:46 AM »
Helping out with decoding a door data tag and ran into this; 76A M 26 02K 71 6 6 and the Vin 5R08C14536.  The usual sources decode ' Trim 26 ' as Black Crinkle Vinyl, Standard Interior.  The cars has a White interior.  I can't find a Trim 26 for the early 65 and the late 65 trim 26 is black.  Just a curiosity ?  Brian

The early and late designations would be from when Ford switched from generator to alternator cars... or the "official" beginning of the 1965 model year.  This car is built during normal alternator production, so 26 would be black std. interior.  It's possible it was a mistake or a previous owner has changed the color.

Well, just to muddy the water a little bit more; it is a generator with shield car.  The ' early 65 ' trims did not have a 26 designation.  A mistake might be the door tag or the assembly line installers ?  My friend is the second or third owner so the first owner or the dealership may have changed the interior ?  Just another we will never know.  Thanks,  Brian

Trim Code "26" has always been all Black... in '65-'66..

Never heard or seen otherwise, However, In Early '65, Trim code "86" was also listed as Black trim as well.

I was going by the VIN you provided, but looks like it's missing a digit?  Post the full correct VIN to clarify that part.
