Quarter ornaments on early Fastback?
« on: March 20, 2013, 06:27:00 PM »
Hi,

I have an Oct 64 San Jose Fastback.  It has both the quarter ornament and rocker panel trim.  I've seen a lot of Fastback pictures, and it seems they always have the quarter ornaments deleted.  My car had an amateur restoration at some point, so I don't know if they were added or original.  It is also not a GT as that option didn't some out until later.  Can anyone provide some info on whether early fastbacks had the ornament standard, etc?  I understand the Accent group option added the rocker panel trim and deleted the quarter ornament, but I don't know when that option became available.

Thanks,
Rich

They were not supposed to be installed on 65-66 fastbacks.  These most likely were added to your car by a previous owner.

The Accent Group was available pretty early, but not sure when.

Thanks Charles.

Do you or anyone know if the rocker panel trim was always part of the Accent group, or could it be ordered separately?

I think that the rocker moulding was standard equipment on the 1965 Fastback with the exception of the GT models. (Optional on the coupe and convertible)

When I bought my car ir was a basket case, there was a pair of the
quarter panel ornaments that came with the car, I always figured
that someone had added them on at some point.

My parents had ordered a 65 fastback new which was built 10/64
and it did not have the ornaments on it.

Thanks all.  Sounds like I'll be removing the quarter ornaments and keeping the rocker panel moulding.
