I recently purchased a reproduction heater blower motor, NPD p/n 18527-1, from NPD. The original blower motor in my '66 fastback works, but is extremely loud; it can't be too far from failure. While the picture on NPD's website shows a decent looking reproduction, with the original style wires and connectors, etc., the motor I received looks much more like a generic, one-size-fits-all motor. The wires on the new motor are red and black with bare ends and no connectors, and the blower motor case itself has very long mounting bolts that look nothing like the original.
Let me say that I am in no way unhappy with the NPD product. I figured it would differ somewhat from an assembly line original blower motor. Has anyone successfully experimented with swapping a "new" blower motor into an original Ford blower motor case? Dimensionally, the two motors look the same. It doesn't look like it would be too tough of a swap. If the blower motor didn't prominently protrude through the firewall, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but this is something I'll have to look at every time I open the hood. I'd love to keep the stock blower motor housing and wiring if at all possible.
