64 1/2 Seat Belts
« on: February 01, 2013, 01:42:51 AM »
Were all 64 1/2 seat belts the falcon style sparten chrome pattern? or was there a combination of colour coded and falcon style belts?

The falcon style are hard to track down these days... I've managed to source just one off Ebay last week, that was the first one I'd seen on there in a very long time...

I guess most are turning toward Ssnake Oyl these days...

Cheers,
Dom

The all chrome style is all I'm aware of for 64 1/2. Aside from personal experience in the hobby, a good reference if you do not have a copy is a book by Colin date, Original Mustang 64 1/2 - 66. Although there is only one buckle style, I've noticed a few variations in the way the ends of the belts are sewn together where the buckle and metal tabs are attached (see pics).

Here are some other variations of note for the 64 1/2 chrome seat belts. There are difference in the markings on the back of the buckle. Here are three examples that show a 7-64 date and  two with a 1-64 date. The 1-64 examples have the markings completely inline or stacked. The stacked marking 1-64 version is the one I come across most often and is not as deeply engraved on the buckle as the other two. I've included a typical hook closure marking example as well, W4A H.

chris / rodster, thanks for your posts...

Seems like from what I can make the information I know is that I need a 1-64 dated buckles and attaching links... I've only ever seen 1-64 and 7-64 dates that would suit cover 64 models, the early 64's would only be 1-64.

Time to hit up Ssnake Oyl...

I won these on eBay the other day, I've never seen the falcon style chrome buckle belts in any other color than black, has anyone else come across this on the 64 1/2s?

  • If it does not fit, you need a bigger hammer!

I have them in Tan. I have seen then in red.  Dad's 64.5 ordered on April 28 had them in Blue.

Falcon? I saw them in Fairlanes more myself. The attaching hardware was diffrent however but the same buckle.

Thanks for the reply,  I rest my mind at ease that I have the correct belts (and to match my blue interior when I get to that stage).
I assume the date stamped on the buckle is 1-64?

Be aware that if you decide to install seat belts in the back seat, the length of the belts are not the same (i.e., it's not buying a normal length set from the front bucket seats and installing them in the rear). I had my front belts restored along with a second set I purchased to go in the rear bench seat. The rear belts were cut a shorter length to match the Ford lengths for rear seat install. The belts in the font are longer to account for seat adjustments that may necessitate longer length being required. My seat belts were restored by Python Restoration with reproduction labels added.
