Spare wheel
« on: February 19, 2013, 06:50:11 AM »
Hi,
If my 67 gta sj fastback came with the optional 14 inch styled steel wheels, what was the spare? Plain steel or styled steel wheel?
Cheers.

The MCA rules say both are correct but I agree with Tim  most would have had the styled steel spare.

I'm not sure for 67 but in 68 if the car came with styled steel wheels as part of an option package (GT or Sprint), they got a styled steel wheel in the trunk.  If the styled steel wheels were a separate option on the window sticker/Marti, the car got a black steel wheel in the trunk.

Was the styled steel wheel part of the GTA package?

Styled steel wheels were a separate option in 1967 and not tied to the GT option. I have seen two original, unrestored 67s that had the styled steel wheel listed as an option on the window stickers and the spare tire had a styled steel wheel. Keep in mind that the spare did not have the center cap or the beauty ring.

I concur with the others; styled steel spare.  Remember when these cars were produced the tire rotation included rotating the spare.  I wasn't until the "donut" tires and directional tires did manufacturers stop the five tire rotation.
