Repo Fuel Filter Canister
« on: November 29, 2012, 09:32:58 PM »
So when Virginia Mustang first offered these I picked one up and haven't used it yet.  I decided to pick another one up (as a spare) from a local Mustang shop that gets his supplies from Scott Drake and noticed a color difference.  Anyone else notice this and which one is more like the original?

One on the left is the one picked up months ago, one on the right is the one picked up today

Chris, When my car was being restored about 4 years ago the repros were not available yet, I asked on anouther forum what White was correct, I believe that it was Charles that told me that '65 Mustang interior (White) was an accepted choice.
It almost looks like Wimbledon White, but just a tad lighter in hue.

I would say then that the one from today on the right in your picture is more correct.

Others may have other opinions though.

I'd be curious why Drake changed the shade of White they use on these.

I'd be curious to get a third one and see which one it matches...

I'd put the darker white one on and be done with it if I were you...........a little too much over-engineering sometimes in the feild you know......

I'm going to leave that one off until I go to a MCA show since it is more correct and just run the bright white one on for local shows...

My original, from a Jan '65 Dearborn car, appears to closer to the brighter one on the left.  But, just as we see differences in the repros perhaps there was just as much variation in the originals?

That looks right in my opinion.  Of course, we have to take into account when these were made, add service parts into the mix which may account for different shades.  Possible that there were different shades on assembly line canisters also.  Other Ford's shared the fuel pump design from that period, so there were a TON of them made.

Some guy on VMF just posted this pic of his, asking value.
You can see the color of white pretty well and it hasn't been cleaned up or "whitened" with solvent.
