1969 Mach garaged since 1989
« on: December 02, 2012, 11:24:01 PM »
I just started tearing down my high school Mach for a rotisserie restoration, it's been in the garage since 1989. I thought someone might find this photo interesting, what is this finish called? Zinc Dichromate?  I also found a Ford sticker with a C9Z part number on my front bumper, it was replaced in 1984 when a girl near the school pulled out in front of me. More fun stuff to follow I hope.

Still got my tag expired oct. 89, but no resto happening yet :'(
I've always called it gold irridated cad plate, but I remember a mustang monthly article from way back called "all that glitters"
that discussed all the different coatings or platings.
Enjoy your project!
Take lots of pictures during the teardown to document all the little details of how the factory did things originally.

The gold finish would be typically referred to as zinc with dichromate dye or simply zinc-dichromate.
