Fender Emblems for 67 GT coupe
« on: November 27, 2012, 11:32:06 AM »
I am restoring a 67 390 GT coupe built in late 1966 at Metuchen.  One of my fenders has the holes filled in where there was the running horse emblem.  The other has no holes.  I assume one fender was replaced.  Were the running horse and mustang lettering deleted on all GT fenders?  I got the Marti report.   Mine was originally equipped with the exterior decor option.  The pictures I have seen appear that I should only have the stripe and the GT emblem on the fender.  Does that sound correct?   Thanks for the help.

That is correct - your car should only have the stripes and the GT letters.
No running horse or M-U-S-T-A-N-G lettering on the fenders...

Let me throw a little twist in here since you didn't mention it in your post. The above would not be correct if your car was originally equipped with an automatic transmission as many were instead the emblem was different and was a GTA one instead

Thanks.  I should have said.  It is a heavy duty 3 speed manual.  Have you guys seen very many of those?

Thanks,
Ben

Can't say I've seen many 3 speed GT's - very unpopular. Guess the buyer was looking to save some dollars so he could afford the GT package ;)

Never seen a 390GT 3-Speed Coupe before, but a friend of mine in high school had a 390GT 3-Speed Fastback.
