67 GT Coupe Side Stripes
« on: November 27, 2012, 11:27:40 AM »
I am restoring a 67 390 GT coupe built in late 1966 at Metuchen.  It has been repainted.  How do you know what color stripe to use?  My car is candyapple red.  Thanks for the help.

Which stripe colors were used was dependent upon the exterior and interior colors of the car.  Candy Apple Red cars usually had white GT stripes - unless the interior color was black, then the GT stripes were usually black as well.

Here's a color chart to help explain things a little better...
1967 390 GTA Convertible
7R03S110###
76B - V - 6U - 30J - 72 - 1 - U
(Actually built on 9/22/1966 - Eight days ahead of schedule)

The stripe color list was ONLY a suggestion. Since the vast majority of cars were built to order you could get any color with any interior if you wanted to order that way - though (like most things) most buyers went along with the suggested color - but they didn't have to ;)
