Door Panel Trim Support Brackets
« on: October 23, 2012, 07:42:59 PM »
Were there small stamped steel brackets located under the interior trim panels on '70 Mustangs with standard interiors ? If so, what do they look like and how are they mounted ? Found two vertical holes on each door below trim panels. I also recall hearing that 1969 models used the brackets and 1970 models didn't.

Not sure of the bracket your referring to. Have you tried looking in the 70 Assembly manual as a start ?  Not that their always correct for  the complete year

Here are a few pictures (sorry really don't have many reasons to collect pictures on the interior surface of doors ;)

First example is a 69

Jeff:

Thanks for the quick response.
Pictures 1 and 4 have what appear to be the brackets in the locations I tried to explain. Your first picture is a 1969 model. Is picture 4 a 1970 model ?
I have looked in the 1970 factory manual as well as the Osborne books and haven't found the brackets on the bare doors.

The clips are supposed to be attached to the door panels and pressed into the door.

Scott:

Thanks for the input. Not asking about the door panel clips. But, the little brackets that would fit under the trim piece that fits over the top of the door panel. In picture 4 we can see one of the two bracket a few inches to the left of the rod for the door lock mechanism. Now that we know what the support brackets look like, trying to determine if used on all '70 Muastangs with std. interiors.

I was thumbing thru the 1970 Mustang Interior Assembly Manual and found the brackets. Ford call them spacers, requires two per door and they are common to 69 and 70 Mustangs with standard interior as p/n C9ZB-6529022-A. From what I remember, they hold the upper trim which holds the door panel (it's been a while since I worked on a 69).
