"retooled" Ford scuff plates
« on: September 08, 2009, 05:13:57 AM »
Has anyone had any experience in side to side comparison of original vs the new 'retooling' of the scuff plates on a 69? I heard that the finish is better but was wondering whether the $150 difference is justified.

I don't have a NOS scuff plate for comparison (which I think is actually your question), but I did install a pair of the new "Ford Tooling" plates on my '69 and I am very happy with them.

Not sure if NOS are the ones we should be comparing the reproductions too since we so often find that the NOS ones are nothing like (or at least they are different) the originals

Have not done a good study but will dig out some originals and compare them to the repos next week and try and post some pictures to help everyone  unless someone beats me to it

I realize this response might be a bit too late but, I recently purchased (NPD) and installed the OE tooling plates on my '70 and they are excellent. My originals are looking pretty worn and dull and these look identical except new finish. Not ultra bright or highly polished (like some cheap repops) but fresh.
