Hi everyone. My question is concerning undercoating. First is there undercoat in the wheel wells on the outside of the car or is that area painted? Second my car is undercoated (nice job) and I think it has been there for ever. Is this  concourse correct for factory or dealer installed? It looks like it is a ton of work to remove it.My back hurts just thinking about it. If it has to come off what is the best option? I am working an a 67 San Jose car with a Jan build date. Yes the wheel wells were under coated and should have paint over spray on them.

The assembly plant did not under coat cars.

If you want to compete in the MCA Concours Trailed class it would need to be removed. It would not need to be removed if you choose the Coucours Driven class.  I would use a heat gun and solvent working carefully with a plastic putty knife. On the plus side if this was a dealer installed undercoating you may find your undercarriage in great shape. Be on the lookout for any factory marks.

If you choose to remove the undercoating; my car is a SJ, but a June 68 build. Mine was never undercoated, so if you want something to reference as to factory sound proofing, pictures of mine might help, again, keep in mind that there is a difference in the build dates.

Will join in with the rest in that originally (from the factory) your car was not undercoated) It did have sound deadener applied in (for the underside of the car) places like the front and rear wheelwells but likely not to the extent you see on your car.

All depends in what you want in the end and how you plan to use or show the car.

Unusual to see a San Jose car undercoated - was it originally sent to the north west??
