67 390 4-speed Bell housing
« on: September 12, 2012, 12:00:22 AM »
Hi I am working a 67 Mustang GT 390 4 speed. I am about to replace the clutch. I need to know what color to paint the bell housing, and what color the transmission cross member. It's a Jan San Jose built car. By the way does anyone know if the pinch weld would be blacked out? The car is Vintage Burgundy in color. Thanks!!!

The bell housing would be bare cast iron in color/shade however it was installed at the time the engine was painted and there would typically be engine color overspray along the edge where the two are connected. Cross member is bare metal on all SJ BB I have ever seen . Jeff and I have a friendly debate over this detail.  ;D We can't agree on everything   ;) . I would not be surprised to see the pinch weld blacked on a vintage Burgundy color.

+1 Documented another 69 Jade black car with the pinch weld blacked out the other day. Its looking more and more IMHO that all cars were done - or at least were suppose to be done ;)

Even some black cars were done. I think some workers sprayed everything that came by.
