Fuel, E-brake, and speedometer cable
« on: August 31, 2012, 04:58:02 PM »
I am missing at least one maybe two clamps on the frame rail on the engine bay side below the steering column.  Here is a picture of what I have now:

I looked at some pictures from when I took the car apart and it seems to show a wide clamp holding both the speedometer and fuel line to the  screw hole that is right next to the oval grommet in the frame rail.  When I look at pictures from other cars it seems to show the wide clamp holding the speedometer and the E-brake cable.  The problem is those pictures are all from V8 cars so the fuel line isn't on the inside of the engine bay there.  I also dont trust my pictures to be accurate because the fuel line was replaced so someone may have messed with things.  Any thoughts?  Was there a small clamp only holding the fuel line and the wide clamp holding both the E-brake and the speedometer cable?   Also was there supposed to be a clamp on the speedometer cable somewhere else under the car?

I think so.  At least it indicates that the fuel line was probably not under the wide clamp.  More then likely if I compare this picture with others from V8 cars that wide clamp probably held both the speedometer and the e-brake cable.  I'll see how it fits.

I find most to have the E-brake and speedo cables under the large clamp.

Thats the way I am going to do it.

One more question, is there another clamp or bracket on the speedo cable that holds it up to the trans cross member?  Seems like I am missing something because the speedo cable is hanging down.

Think it should run above with cross member rather than below

Steve I believe the route may be different depending on application - what trans do you have behind the 6 cylinder??

I believe that the only time that this clip is not used was in the case of a four speed transmission. Marty

Its an automatic (C4).

That looks like what I need except I have a fuel line clamp bolted in there to hold the fuel line.  Now there was two holes really close together but the one looked like it may have been added at some point.  It was a smaller self tapping screw type hole compared to the larger one which seemed to fit the fuel line clamp screw better.
How does the clip on the clamp hold it too the car?  Do you need a special tool to install it?  Does it go into a standard round hole or is it a square cutout?

I found some more pictures.  I think one is from Jeff.

If the red arrows are the location of clamps  I think that the clamp on the fuel line that is currently on the trans cross-member actually probably belongs back further on the frame rail extension.

Sorry Tim I did not make that clear. You are correct about the large front clip. I was referring to the speedo clip on the rear crossmember.

Found another picture.  At this point I am quite convinced I have the fuel line clip mounted where the speedometer clip should be.  Also looks like the fuel line clip belongs on the frame rail extension.  No clamp in this picture but the hole is there
