66 6 cylinder a/c service valves
« on: September 04, 2012, 09:21:57 PM »
I'm not sure if I'm in the right place for this question so please move it if I'm not. I am restoring the a/c system on my 66 convertible 6 cylinder, build date 11/17/65 Dearborn.

I have an original 6 cylinder compressor and the service valves have the fittings for attaching the a/c gauges on the sides, I also noticed in the factory manual it shows them on the side. So I am assuming they valves are original to the compressor.

The nut on the service valve that screws onto the compressor head has some slight damage and I'm thinking of replacing them. all the replacement ones I've seen have the the fitting on the top and not the side.

I guess my question is two fold first which service valve was put on at the factory, and if it was the service valve with the fitting on the side, would I loose points in the concours driven class if I had ones on it that were on the top?

Thanks in advance for any and all help!!

Not sure really what your describing " on the side" but maybe one of these pictures will help you in your search for an answer

Hope they help

Thanks so much for the pictures, they do help, they all show the service cap, the part with the brass cap on them mounted on the side of the service port rather than on the top.

Thank you for that picture as well, it confirms what I thought about the service caps being on the side, it is also will be a great help when I start putting my engine compartment together. I see that car must of been a sprint edition with the chrome air cleaner!

Charles,
My teacher bought that car when I was in the third grade. We thought what does that old lady want a sports car for. She was 58!

Yeah, but you didn't post the assembly plant and approximate build period!   :D

Unfortunately - that is one of the few sets I don't have a vin for :(  Based on the details I can guess the plant :0
