Non-power brakes master brake cylinder cap color

Re: '69 vert, SJ build, April 24 build date

It seems to me that over the past 10 to 12 years opinion has changed back and forth as to the color of the master brake cylinder cap on non-power drum brakes.  I had a black cap and was told that they came as cadmium finish.  So, I bought a cadmium finished cap.  At the recent GN in Mustang, I was dinged because it was not black.

SO, which is correct black or cadmium?

I found the following photo on this site when attempting a search on this subject.  I'm not sure one can ascertain what color it was when new.

Black (painted as a unit with the retaining bale and master cylinder)

Often, over the years, the black first wears, chips,...... off of the plated surfaces first leaving us with what can look like a non- painted cap on a master cylinder. Even service replacements are found painted as such.

Thanks Jeff.  Like I said, I have one that's painted black so it's no biggy to swap them out.
