65 Convertible History (Done in 1987)
« on: August 17, 2012, 03:40:41 PM »
In 1987, before internet, and before privacy was much of an issue, I wrote the NC DMV about the history of my Rangoon Red 65 Convertible.

After a $150 phone bill and hours of conversation with EVERY person who had ever had their hands on my car, the history was complete.

I typed it into a report.  It should be fun for y'all to look at.  Every time I do, I smile!

Bryan,
That’s great stuff! I wish I could do that for my Sprint. Too bad it’s a different world today and the DMV isn’t as accommodating.
A question:
I’m particularly interested in the shipping form. How do you know it was shipped by rail and that the destination was indeed Charlotte?

Thanks for the kind words,

Keep in mind Pete, I took some liberties with THAT part and made an assumption based on the likelihood that most Mustangs went out on trains and this car had a Charlotte DSO.

That shipping document is MY FAKE.

It is logical and would make sense that a truck would pick it up and deliver it to the dealer.  That's how my 2007 Tahoe came from Chevrolet's Wisconsin plant.

I was in my late 20's when I did this.

Good job in research. In California we are restricted for the most parts due to nut case stalkers. The incident that comes to mind was about actress Rebecca Schaeffer whose address was traced via the California DMV and she was murdered.
On the other hand, on two out of the three Mustangs I now own, I know of the original buyers, original dealerships, the second owners, and I'm the third. I have both of the original owners manuals and on my 65 GT Fastback, the original window sticker and sales invoice. On the other car, a 66 "K" Pony Fastback, the two previous owners and I all worked for the same company. You may have heard of it, Ford Aerospace and Communications Corp - AKA Philco and a bunch of other name changes. I still see that guy that sold me that car when he comes out of the rain soaked areas of Oregon to visit Northern Cal.

We could tell I don't think  Ford used a  IBM Selectric in 1965 !!

Great effort, story and "part of your mustang life"!
