1965 Front Seat - Seat Back Frame
« on: July 22, 2012, 01:32:58 AM »
Hi Everyone,

During the process of reupholstering my front seats I noticed that my driver's side seat was badly misaligned (the seams didn't line up nicely - see attached photo).  The passenger side seats looked fine.  After taking the old material off to view the frames it was quickly evident what the problem was.  At some point in the past someone had repaired the seat back (not very well I might add) with some 1/2" gas pipe.  I could proably get someone to fabricate a better repair but given the extent of the old repair I'm considering buying a new seat back.

However, it appears that just the seat back is not available in reproduction.  You can buy the entire seat frame or just the seat bottoms but not just the seat back.  Is anyone aware of a supplier that sells just the seat back?

Regards,

Ron

Yes.  I am.  There is only one.  California Mustang sells just the seat backs if you need them.  They sell them by the pair.  I have never seen another supplier sell them by themselves.

What you are looking for is the seat back frame, not the seat back... Seat Backs are just the vinyl covered cardboard... What you were looking for is the seat back frame.   Don't know if anyone is reproducing those yet, but I would check with DYNACORN.  If anyone has them, I would check with them...but originals are still pretty easy to come by..

Thanks Tony,

Dyancorn only reproduces the seat frame bottoms or the entire seat frame.  They don't just sell the seat back frames stand alone.  To the best of my knowledge no one reproduces the just the seat back frame.  I wasn't able to track down a nice original so I ended up buying the entire seat frame from Dynacorn.
