I need to replace a block for a car with a June 17 1968 build date.  I'm wondering what an acceptable date range would be for a replacement I'm assuming I would not want to use a block with a date code past the build date.  Or is this not a big deal since the block is not original anymore.  I want to do a concours restoration on the car.

I would think a month or two before the build date would be best. 1968's had the VIN stamped in the block so even if you find a correct build date it Will not be #s matching. Marty

Where was your car built? Since the delivery time from the engine plant to San Jose (for example) would be different than lets say - Dearborn

Yeah I figured the block had a stamp on it somewhere so the hope of numbers matching was out.  I found a wrist pin and what was left of the rod in the oil pan.  The bottom of #3 & #7 bores are damaged beyond repair. The car was built at the San Jose plant.
