Were luggage protectors used on the back of the taillight housings for the '69s?  I believe only '70s used them, but I have had points deducted for it at some shows.

The first two examples (both Dearborn) that I found in my files - sure most fell or were knocked off over the years. Will look for more

They are on Perkins' lo mile Dearborn car but not on my unrestored San Jose car.  I thought the consensus was they are not usually on a '69?

Concensus' can always change based on new and different findings    We've seen allot of "rules" change over the years - that's what makes it fun

With that said I think the lack of such a delicate detail is not always an indication that it wasn't there originally - so the search continues

If you're referring to the luggage protectors, NPD now sells them.

69 didn't use them due to the different mounting design

The caps shown in the pics are rubber vacuum caps like what was used on the 70 spoiler studs.
The luggage protector caps are quite different as seen here:

I believe they're also used on the rear side marker studs too, not just on the tailight studs and package tray screws.

I see Rick's pic shows a mixture of protectors.
Perhaps if one type of protector fits a stud, it's too loose for a skinny screw?

IN the one picture we see both the screw protectors (used also on the front edge of the trunk on sportroofs to protect/cover the interior screws that stick through into the trunk) like the 65-66 cars. These are the narrow. small dia covers that Joack and NPD carry currently.

The ones that we see on the taillight studs are simply vacuum caps (flexible) we find in the interior - ones with the fine nipple

Thanks for clearing that up Jeff.
Makes sense that one type would fit a screw, and another a stud.
I'll be at a show next Monday and will see if I can photo some grey dome type protectors for the taillights and markers.
I haven't seen vacuum caps used on studs other than those for the 70 spoiler myself.
Maybe it's a wet coast thing?

Ok, went to the Ford show today and there was only one 69/70 to look at, and it was a 70 Dearborn B302.
There were personal effects in the trunk so not much was visible, but I did manage to get a shot of one tail lamp that wasn't obscured.
The picture is of the grey protector which is the only type I've ever come across.

Was this an unrestored car?  What (if anything) was on the forward screws from the interior?

Have only seen gray ones like the one in your picture on restored cars in that location - so far

Picture #2 above was from an unrestored 70 Boss 302 and here is another (both are missing some of them - likely/possibly knock off over the years) from a 30K mile unrestored 70 Boss 302

Notice that the  small screw covers in both locations are consistent.

The car was restored, and sorry I forgot all about checking for interior trim screw protectors.
There were no tailight stud protectors in place, and the side markers were obscured.
I was trying to provide a clear pic of the grey dome type screw protector.
I don't know if it's correct or not, it's just the type I keep seeing.

I think the issue is that the gray ones have been available for a fairly long time so owners hear they  need screw covers - open up a catalog and order what is available. I would guess that at allot of shows the judges (if judged at all) are letting them get by or don't know.
