Topic: Dill Valve Caps

I was under the impression that the "Dill" brand valve stem caps listed along with the "Dill" brand valve stems in some of the Mustang parts catalogs were something that were hard, if not impossible to find "on the street" or at "WalMart"
I have found what I believe to be the correct caps that were original equipment on our '06 PT Cruiser, and just last night I had new tires put on the Cruiser and low and behold TIRE KINGDOM put the "Dill" brand caps on!
My question is do the correct "Dill" caps have a hollow or solid "crown? seems I've seen several variations...anyone bother with these minute details? its all in the details you know.....

I guess now I've answered my own question by looking at the picture in the current NPD catalog on page 51 right in the center: the caps have a hollow crown on them.

Since you've already answered your own questions, here's a little side comment. Dill is still in business. Unlike many other manufacturers that have changed products through the years in order to stay in business, they still make valve stems (and of course, caps for them)!

I am resurrecting this topic to find out if the correct valve steams can be purchased locally.  I'd hate to pay $9 to ship a $5 part.

You don't need to do anything special. Just find 1 1/4" valve stems which are easy to find, then check a couple of tire shops for the Dill caps.....these things are both redily available.
IF you are running full wheel covers you'll need plastic, common extensions, if running styled steel wheels you are fine with just the stems themselves.

I have the standard hubcaps for a 67 what are these plastic extensions?
Other then that you say there is nothing special about the valve stems other then to get the correct length?

Note that the originals had a steel button instead of the white plastic. To make the white plastic be closer, you can paint it silver.

If you can find a set of orignals, they run around $50 set.

Ford serviced a bunch of different lengths for those extenders also...

Sorry this may be a dumb question but what is the purpose of these things?  They look like they replace the valve cover???

With the 1 1/4" valve stem, it is very hard to get an air chuck with the wheel cover on. So the valve stem cap is replaced with these extenders and the extenders have a check valve (the ball) so you can place the air chuck right on the extender and fill the tire.

Ok that makes sense.  Do you think the 3/4" length ones are enough for a 67?  Seems like it should be.

3/4" should get you through the wheel cover just fine, don't want to go any longer than you have to-might trip folks at the shows if you do-lol
