More 428 CJ oddities and fun discoveries
« on: March 09, 2012, 04:05:07 PM »
Some of you have seen this before but I thought I would share.  We recently had this 69 428 SCJ rebuilt for a car we are doing (and yes the valve covers are for transport)

Now take a look at the back of the block. It has 66 - 427 cast into it and the bosses down low for a side oiler pressure valve and spring. It also has the C welded on it as it should

Remembering that these blocks were cast with several sand casts put together - apparently they had a leftover end piece and went ahead and used it. My engine builder has seen 390s with the cross bolt main bosses that were unmachined. Never say never with Ford!!

I've seen or owned about a dozen of these. Most often you'll see them advertised allot of different ways since the rear casting mold confuses allot of owners ;)

This is why is almost impossible to tell the size and type of FE in a car without some disassembly - Ford mixed and matched the exterior castings for some reason (likely a cost saving)

Thanks for bring up the subject

Another 428CJ  example

And a non- CJ 428 example using the same rear casting
