Topic: Aluminized exhaust system in Trailered Concours

I am considering an Scott Fuller exhaust system for my 70 SCJ Mach1. He may do a special run for the 70 Mach1 if there is enough interest.  He is offering it in aluminized or bare steel.  In the 2011 MCA rules, it is stated all-aluminized system is accepted.  As I understand, the pipes were originally bare steel.  Do you guys know if there is a possiblity the rules will change such that the pipes would need to be bare steel?

Right now I would think that they will stay that way for at least a couple of years. On the same hand I would not put an all-aluminized  system on one of my cars in restored class - just for the reason you mentioned it

Can foresee a time where the all-aluminized  would be ok only in the driven classes

Other than dressing (not sure how well those work I don't think so. That is the reason I think the judges would continue to allow the aluminized systems on the Driven Concours cars with no deductions

You get what you pay for, and Scott's exhaust systems are excellent.
Consider that with a bare steel system that will rust despite all best efforts.
For those that can't accept rust, there's the much longer lived aluminized alternative.
As for those that would be critical of rust on a bare steel system, they're just not being realistic.

I don't see any way too protect it. Also to be clear it is just the pipes that were bare steel, not resonators and mufflers

I love the original look of the bare steel but I will start and drive my car a little( at least in and out of the trailer). I live in a area that has high humidty too so I think I will opt for the aluminized exhaust even if it cost me a point someday. Marty

Why would you?   That is what happened to the originals.    Now granted we aren't going to drive our restored cars to the point of rusting.....BUT I am enjoying watching the finishes change (after I restored them) !

Mach 1 owners unite, we need Scott to be able to make that exhaust, it will be perfect for ours cars. It only makes sense to aluminize
