Topic: 66 Hood latch release mechanism

I'm a bit confused on which is the correct latch mechanism  for a 1966 SJ build.   The pictures are from Shelbys but I don't think
that's a common denominator here other than both are San Jose built.    The one with the one bolt is a May build (6s2249) and the one
with two bolts is a March build (6s2017).   Are both, or either , correct?

Your picture of 6S2017 shows a 65 latch and mounting bracket, three body type bolts. The one shown for 6S2249 is a 66 type, two hole latch and mounting bracket. Is the one on 6S2017 correct? Possibly. Shelby did strange things at the plant. And possible not. Shelbys had a lot of home made mods.

Not in this case. 65 yes the latch was removed and there were some mod pieces used in place of the latch.  6S2017 should have the typical 66 Mustang latch. There was no reason for SA to mess with the Ford installed latch .

Not sure why this would confuse you since cars are not always rebuilt or repaired as they were originally but the bottom picture represents (single forward bolt)  the correct/original version for a 66 San Jose car

Weren't there some carry-over 65 Shelbys into the 66 model year?  Or are the VIN numbers too high to be carry-overs?

Plus they didn't use Mustang style hood latches
