Topic: Thermostat housing

Working on a 289 that has the recess in the intake for the thermostat but for the life of me, I can't find a t-stat housing without the recess.  If I want to fill in the recess on a t-stat housing, what would be the materials recommendation?  Some kind of waterproof epoxy I'm guessing?

JB Weld perhaps? If not, they make a Water Weld product. No thermostat housing modification experience but I'm always good for at least one opinion.

Possibly could mill down the housing to remove the recess? Or fill with JB weld. Marty

Charles it's kinda surprising to me that you haven't been able to locate a housing without the recess. The reason I say that is, it seems the majority of nice ones I frequently find on Fleabay are the early no-recess units. Of course that's also because I'm always watching for nice recessed housings! 

Are you looking specifically for NOS, or just really nice condition?

Just something in decent condition.  I found a couple of the ones with the recess today looking through my junk (spare) bins!

I am assuming that if the manifold has a recess, then the waterneck housing should not?  If so, I too am looking for either a good used or newer replacement housing.  The one currently on my car has a recess in it too (see related post from me earlier tonight).

Thanks, was able to acquire one a while back.  They're not too difficult to find NOS, but good used ones seem to be kind of rare.
