York AC tag date code
« on: December 20, 2011, 11:24:19 PM »
I have a York AC compressor tag that I need to know the date code. Does someone have a book that breaks down the date code?

No.  Y864971 K
PT. C8AA-2875A2
                079K

Thanks Marty

Can guess but "knowing " is a different story. Have other examples but no way of telling (guessing at the date pattern most look to have been replaced) if they are original to the car

Marty, I think I have an idea but I want to make sure. Somewhere I have a tag that I know the build date of the car it came off for comparison. Should be able to decipher. Later Yorks used to contain model year in serial # but I think that wasn't till the 70s. Being a C8 compressor I feel it is most likely a  68 model year date as it was replaced by a C9 the following year

Thanks guys for your thoughts. I thought Kevin Marti or some one published a tag book that may have decoded these. I have a 67 that was original to the car I will post it later. Marty

The car this one came from was built on 10-22-66 in SJ plant

Here are 4 tags  that I have. The one that has the Ford script on is the early 67 The block Fo Mo Co must have run part way through 67 and all of 68? I still can not make sense of the date codes on the Ford tags. The 1972 York tag is April 1972. Marty

A couple of additional ones below

Think it might work this way

Example 068K

06 (day of month) 8 (year) K (month

Jeff I think I have got it now, you are correct  for the C8 and latter tags. The C7 and earlier tags were only the month and year. Like the one on my 11-04-66 GTA the tags reads 106  10= October and 6 = 1966. What do you think?

Quite coincidental that all the C8/C9 tags end in K?

Thanks Tim had not picked up on that. If they all follow that pattern then the letter IMHO is likely the plant that built them so the first pair of numbers might be the month (don't see any examples higher than "12") followed by year

The K is also the last character in the No. as well. Both the 67 have a H in that position, but none on the date code.
