Here's something I always wondered about and have seen on some other SVO. Similar to the grease pencil marks that were painted over on my 65 Mustang on the radiator support.

Look closely and you'll see and 'M8' under the paint.

Any idea what this was for or anyone ever notice a pattern?

Something that got left behind in my car. I found this under the spare tire. It's proof that my lousy paint is indeed 'concours' correct. There's one for the judges!  ;D

Might explain some odd overspray from the likely repaint/touch up.

Have found a number of these, One (71-73) described dirt in the paint on the passenger side. The worker shoved the form into the roof edge before they repainted that side - Form had plenty of overspray on one side once found

I was looking through some pics the other day and found something interesting on a 1C 84 that I looked at a couple of years ago. On the inner fender was stamped "4 13". I ran the vin, (XEF182749) and discovered a build date of 4/13/84. I also believe this car was a Comp Prep.

Kendal, what's the vin on your 2A. I'd be interested to run that and see if the build date correspondes to the "11 17" stamping on your inner fender.

Still trying to make sense of the random "T", "5" and "22" I've seen stamped on some cars.

Here are a couple of pics from Daniel Carpenter's '85.5; there are two date stamps, one on the RH bumper cover and the other on the LH inner fender near the onion head. Interesting that the two stamps are different colors.

According to the SVOCA VIN registry, the build date is actually 7/24.

Here is another one, however, after comparing to the DC car, this looks more like a date stamp than an ink stamp?

This is from an 11,000 mile '86 7B, VIN TXGF215994. The SVOCA VIN registry has a build date of 2/24. Hard to read the exact day in the picture.

Yep, I checked the build date and it is 11/17.  The 84 car in question should be a 84 comp prep. A marti report (eminger) would tell for sure.

I was at the International Mustang Meet in Red Deer,Alberta over the Labour Day long weekend and took some pics of a very original, except for exterior paint, 84 1C, 5EF135869. It had a "G" stamped on either side of the core support, both sides of the inner hood and also on the hatch. First time I've seen it on a hatch. Also had "12 01" on the inner fender and bumper cover and the build date for this vin is 1/12/83.

Great Example of Ford's use of daubs to identify parts - both in the assembly of a component AND for ID for build.  (green turbo 1983/84)

Just noticed a red B ink stamp on the timing belt cover. Something I never noticed before on other 2.3's. ??

Yea, it's not great but shows the stamp and the general location.  I'll have to take a closer look and see if I can get a better picture.
