Topic: What is the finish and color on fog lights?

I have an original set of fog lights with date stamping for my '65 mustang. Tonight when I tried cleaning them, silver paint came off the outer shell and it appears to have a galvanized finish underneath?  Is this finish the more desired look or should I repaint them and if so what color? What about powder coating to keep the rust out? Also, on the inside there is an inner ring that holds the lamp and it is black. Is that correct as well?

The fog light housings would have been zinc plated and then painted with argent paint.  The inner bracket should be black as you have seen.
