I'm working on an odd Pony--it's an X-code California Special. It has 4-wheel manual drum brakes and I've started on the R rear... I only do one side at a time when I do brakes, and I don't take anything apart until I have a replacement in hand so I can do swaps quickly before I forget what stuff looks like and where things go.
Took the drum into Car Quest today, hoping to have it turned, but it measured beyond their tolerances. So I'm looking at the NPD Catalog to order a set of shoes and a new drum and they list 10" x 1 3/4" for a '68 390, and a 10" x 2", also for a '68 390. So I tried to measure the shoe width themselves, and the contact surface on the inside of the drum. I also happen to have the drums off my '69 B2, and I know those are supposed to be 10" x 2", but the shoe pads are affixed to the backing plates differently on that car, and the insides of the drums are formed slightly differently. For both cars, the shoe pads measure just slightly under 2" in width (but not the same width), and the contact areas within the drums are also a few 32nds off from each other, and are also slightly under 2" of contact. Neither car has the original pads in place, although both are low-milers with original drums.
Advice on what I should order for this car? Thanks!
