Carpet install advice
« on: August 02, 2011, 09:06:48 AM »
When installing the carpet and screws/seat belt bolts what is the best way to punch holes so as not to wind the material around screws. Ice pick or awl? Thought I read it should be punched from back side but that seems impossible at rocker panels,

I push a large nail through the hole to mark it then use an old soldering iron to burn hole through

Thanks for the advice. I presume you use the soldering iron to melt the loops to keep them from winding around the screw? Good idea.

NO!

Let the hot tip melt the hole, enlarge the hole, and fuse the yarn so it doesn't unravel.  Don't touch a drill or hole cutter.
