Tinted glass was an option in 65 and 66, but was rear tinted glass on all fastbacks standard?

In 1965, the rear tinted glass was an option on Fastbacks - see attached. In 1966 it was standard on Fastbacks.

Attached is a copy of a page from the 1965 Ford Car Facts Book (printed August of 1964) which shows in the Mustang Section for Fastbacks that the Rear Glass on a Fastback has Tinted Glass as "Standard". I believethat on Jim's previous Post, the Tinted Glass shown is for the Windshield and Side Glass onlt.

So, according to this, all 1965 Fastbacks came with their Back Glass Tinted.

Hope this helps,

Bob

That helps!  I've seen different reports out there.  This is pretty definitive.  Thanks.

Just to expound a little further on my previous Post, a look at6 the 1965 (Only) Ford Parts & Accessories Catalog (Printed January 1965), there is NO Part Number shown for a Clear Rear Glass on a 1965 Fastback. Thus, a Clear was not even offered y Ford as a Service Part. This is the same for bothy 1966 and 1967 Mustang Fastbacks.

My version of the "1965 Ford Mustang illustrated Facts Book" (California Mustang - no stock number listed) page 12 shows almost everything your version does - except - no tint. That's not saying this was not a "running change".
The 68 Ford Car Parts (the infamous MPC) body text 42 page 2, shows an untinted service rear wind for fastbacks and a tinted service rear window.

Good question! To my knowledge, the rear tinted glass was not standard on all fastbacks in 65-66.
It was part of the optional ?visibility? group, as for the other panes.
But I also saw some exceptions depending on the factories or the production dates.
Always fascinating to dig into these period details!

Tinted rear window glass was standard for all 1966 Mustang Fastbacks. It was optional when 1965 Fastbacks were introduced. It "may" have become standard at some point in the 1965 build year. That is the real question. When?

We may need a survey.

The original tinted rear glass is still on the 65 2+2 in my sig. It's an A-code, disc brake, 2 speed wiper car with a 3 speed manual car. No other options found (radio is unknown).

Both my 65 mustangs (October of 64 and June of 65) have tinted rear glass with the Sun x script on them. Both are date coded to the cars. I had my dad check his 66 Hertz and it a as well is tinted and date coded for his car.

Of  all of the Shelby's I have ever come across or heard of had tinted rear glass. The clear glass exception numbers must be rare given I have never come across any used examples of clear rear glass in my many years of parts scrounging. I believe until compelling evidence (other then hearsay) suggests otherwise that by the time the 65 Shelby's were in production the change over to tinted only had already taken place.
