FS: 1966 Shelby/K code leaf springs
« on: December 16, 2024, 05:35:14 AM »
This is my first post on these forums. I use the same username over on the SAAC forum where I have purchased parts and also Vintage Mustang forums where I have shared many pics of my 1966 Shelby clone.

I have for sale, a set of original leaf springs from a 1966 Shelby GT350. These parts were fitted to my 1966 Shelby clone when it was restored in Oklahoma in the early 2000s. At that time, the owner of my clone purchased a real Shelby and fitted these old springs to the clone after upgrading to new springs with the Shelby.

The stampings on both springs read:

C4ZA-5556-S
16 6E

The springs are a matching pair and complete. They are currently off the car and located in Australia. I understand most people only require the bottom plates for the stampings. This will also make shipping far more economical. Happy to work with interested parties on the best way to ship, also happy to disassemble the springs to make shipping more economical.

Asking $1350 USD + shipping. Payment via PayPal friends and family or buyer to add fees

First, welcome to the forum.
Actually, the springs you are trying to sell are the standard assembly line springs supplied with 64 thru 66 Mustang Convertibles and 65 and 66 Mustangs Fastbacks with the 289CID HP engine, and yes, they were on Shelbys too. Now don't be disappointed, they are rare and valuable. You just have a wider market.
Jim
The date code translates as follows:
16 = day of year, in this case, the spring were made in January on the 16th, so usable on a car at least a week after (more likely two weeks).
6E = year, 1966; and manufacturing plant designed as "E" (possibly Eaton)

I promise to be politically correct in all my posts to keep the BBBB from vociferating.

Hi Jim, thanks for the welcome. Yes you are correct, I was aware of this and perhaps could have stated "K code/Shelby" in the title. I figured interested parties would know what they are looking for but have amended it anyhow :). Appreciate the breakdown on the coding also.

FYI to those reading EATON was/is a large business conglomerate that was a OEM to Ford for Springs. It should not be confused with the much smaller operation still selling springs (never a Ford OEM) that happens to have the same name.
