I need some help on a question- Brake line
« on: October 25, 2024, 11:14:41 AM »
I ordered a new brake line from the proportional valve to the rear end. Inline tubing sent me a 3/8 fitting on both ends. I told the salemen it's 7/16 by the proportional valve and 3/8 on the other end. I sent him a picture of  a valve on the internet with the sizes on each port of the valve. My valve on my car is 7/16 at the valve. He's telling me each end is 3/8 per his drawing. ??????????????????????  So, the question is , is there 3/8 on both ends or 7/16 and 3/8? Thanks

Yes 3/8 is typical. Can you post a picture of what the proportioning valve looks like that you have? I have not seen a 68-70 proportioning valve with a 7/16 fitting.

Bob , here is a picture of a  valve that I found on line. It's not the picture of my valve , but just like it. Here is the line off my car and the line that Inline sent me.

70 apparently uses a distribution block and proportioning valve combined unlike 65-69 which is separate. There are a lot of aftermarket 1970 proportioning valve alternatives out there and some of those have one fitting that is 7/16. I found a Scott Drake made reproduction https://www.summitracing.com/parts/SDK-C7ZZ-2B257-A  that is a reproduction of the Ford unit and Ford specs. All of the fittings are 3/8 on those. What with classic tube inline saying their lines are made to Ford specs and that fact goes along with the drake reproduction I can conclude that the one in your car is most likely one of the many aftermarket replacements. You can ether make up a new line to go with your existing valve and send back the line from classic tube inline or you can find a original or get a Drake reproduction proportioning valve to go with the classic tube 3/8 line you received.

Bob, I talked to classic tubing yesterday Their lines match my valve. So, I bought their lines for my car. He stated he works with a restoration shop on his lines so that they fit. I was asking a 100 question before I waste another 140.00. My valve is original if I'm not mistaking. I'll take a picture of it today and post it.  If I'm not mistaking it has the DOOA-2B328-D. Thanks Bob.

I was looking through my stuff and found a 70 valve like what we are discussing. It has 2 7/16 fittings so I stand corrected. Here is a picture I found from a previous thread here . It shows the D0OA 2B328-D distribution block/ proportioning valve with 2 7/16 fitting for the rear brake . This match's the one on my shelf.

If yours is not  D0OA-D marked and you would like it to be I have no use for the one I have and it is yours for the asking plus shipping. Mine although clean and replated like new would need to be rebuilt inside as I wouldn't trust it.
