Minimize the amount of paint on the fins.  It's an insulator and will affect heat transfer.

I?m in the process of painting my radiator. Eastwood has two kinds of radiator paint and I am having trouble deciding which one to use. One is called satin, but it looks more like matte. They also have one that they call gloss. Has anyone else had experience with this stuff, or can you tell me what you did with yours? Obviously, I would like it to look as correct as possible. Thanks!

When they were new they were more of a gloss however after a few heat cycles toned down to a satin.NOS ones that I have had were gloss also. Depending on paint used this softening of gloss will happen. Consequently most people think satin is the correct gloss. I don't know enough about the eastwood paints to make recommendation.
