69 GT 500 taillight harness
« on: July 24, 2024, 02:54:51 PM »
Just sent my original taillight harness to Rhode Island Wiring to have wrapped with the cloth covering (had very little on it if any at all).  Does anyone have any pictures of the harness where the cloth braided loom stops? When I  look at the "concourse" harness that shows available available it appears that it stops before the branch of the taillight bulbs? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The loom is spliced at the base of the drivers side wheel well and is wrapped with tape at that point and only covers for a few inches before all the taillight controller parts are located then looking backwards the tap job continues to each bulb as it goes across the taillight panel to the rear.

The following pictures are from three different cars built through out the production period. In the first ignore the rattle can undercoating some owner applied

Difficult to find many pictures since in most cases the cars are assembled and the detail is hidden under the cardboard filler and the mat

I know Jeff knows this but friction type tape was used unlike the slick tape used to wrap other harness's on the car.

Jeff,
do you know where the braid starts and does it end before the taillight bulbs?

I looked at my used harnesses, but they are all pretty frayed, so no help.

Those 1969 GT-350/GT-500 have the same part number as 1969 Cougar XR7, C9WY-14405-B.

The Cougar taillight harness is not a direct replacement as you seem to imply in your post. It is not the same harness. The Shelby tail light harness for one uses a separate clip that grounds each separate receptacle in the Shelby fiberglass taillight panel. Cougars don't need that because the Cougar tailpanel is metal. Consequently you have to modify a Cougar taillight harness so that it will function in a Shelby.

Some examples

Starts and some stops

End of the wire loom passenger side with label

Center section at gas tank fill

And in between the ends.
Very Early

Much Later in the year

Thanks Bob, I did not know that. Just sharing what the Ford MPC indicates.

Another example of a MPC listing the replacement or closest thing available rather than assembly line part   ;)
